About

Our emergency medicine residency program provides residents with an exceptional opportunity to train in an urban environment with a vast spectrum of illness and high acuity patients. ย We care for over 100,000 patients a year in our ED, including over 1,100 major trauma patients. We are the busiest Level 1 Trauma Center in Philadelphia, providing high-level trauma care to a broad spectrum of patients with penetrating and blunt trauma. As one of the region’s largest tertiary care facilities, our program offers the opportunity for acquiring the distinct training needed to care for the vast spectrum of illnesses encountered in the emergency department setting. Serving both urban and suburban communities with virtually every ethnic and socioeconomic group assures clinical variety and continual challenge.

Our program is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). We currently hold the maximum ten-year accreditation status from the ACGME-RRC. Our 40+ board-certified faculty members demonstrate an unsurpassed commitment to resident education and clinical research. Many of the faculty have additional training in Critical Care, Ultrasound, Toxicology, Emergency Medical Services, Special Operations Medicine, and Disaster Management. Several faculty members are nationally recognized experts in Resident Education, Pain Management, Conscious Sedation, and EM Quality Assurance.

Our goal is to prepare residents for the successful practice of Emergency Medicine in whatever environment they choose. The graduates of our program are well trained for careers in both academic and community emergency medicine, and many have gone on to fellowship training and administrative roles.
